Preventing Garage Accidents

The garage is where people sometimes keep their tools and heavy equipment. It is a place that some homeowners would perform tasks that are possibly dangerous. Accidents could happen inside the garage. To prevent risks, it is important to follow safety measures. Ensure that all the shelves are properly attached to the walls. Make sure all the hangers, closets and other storage areas are secure as well. Accidents can happen if shelves are overloaded with so many tools. Do not pile all the equipment in one heap. Use appropriate storage solutions for all types of materials. Boxes can be used if you lack storage space.

Also, keep sharp edges and power tools in secure places. Pointy edges should face inward or in protective covering. To prevent electrocution, secure all electrical cords and make sure they do not become tangled. Hang coil extension cords or put them away in drawers. Electrical wires left on the floor can cause someone to be entangled with them. As for small loose items like nails, screws and bolts, gather them and keep them in designated containers. If they are left scattered, they can cause accidents. Moreover, unplug all appliances, tools and equipment immediately after they are used. If the plugs are left in the sockets, they might cause electric shock, fires, overheating and power wastage.

Another thing to remember is to clean the garage regularly. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove grime, sawdust and other dirt. Put chemicals, paints, oils, thinners, pesticides and other liquids in appropriate places. It is very important to stay organised. A clean and orderly garage can very well support health and safety.
