First off, you have to decide what you are going to turn your garage into. It could become an extra bedroom, lounge, bathroom, home office, etc. Know that whatever you decide will affect your conversion budget.

The next thing to consider when converting your garage would be whether you can do it or not. If you are just renting your property, then get your contract out and read it thoroughly. Find out if there are any restrictive clauses that can prevent you from acting out your plans. If there are, do not give up yet as you can just call the owner and negotiate. You may have to pay a small amount for this, but it would be worth it once the garage conversion gets finished and you obtain the space you need!

If you own the house and lot however, you should check if there are any building regulations you need to follow and permits to get before you can convert the garage. Know that if you fail the regulations, you generally have to return everything to what they once were at your expense, so be careful!

However, if you do your homework and plan properly, that garage will be converted in no time. You will then have a much improved home and a definitely better living situation!
